Songs of Solomon

SONG 1:1 The song of songs, which is Solomon’s.

The actual title of the book is in the first verse “Song of Songs” with the same connotation as “King of Kings, Lord of Lords.”

The book was read in the synagogue during the Passover on the Sabbath or on the 8th climatic day giving it a grand finale.  It portrays the concept of deliverance not only from Egypt, but finally from sin by the promised Messiah who is the central figure of the book as Judge and Deliver of His people by His priestly office, The Lord Our Righteousness.  As can be seen, this poetic book is full of the language of love, marital love, love that binds and presses on to perfection.

The bride and the bridegroom are in the preparation stages.  The last generation is destined to meet the bridegroom.  At midnight the cry is, behold the bridegroom cometh.  Those who enter the last great conflict must join the bridal procession with joy.  The greater the persecution and perplexity the more they need to be encouraged with the celebration of their soon coming deliverer. They must enter the conflict with gladness of heart, which is the work that the Song of Songs is preparing them to do.

Sacred Union

´Marriage in the old and new testaments is to represent the tender and sacred union between Christ and His people. The figurative language is as Jesus using parables so that the babes would understand instead of the wise and prudent. But we must remember it is also a prophecy, that is, in the form of a drama revealed by the types and figures employed. ´As the prophetic time-line of Daniel and Revelation align with each other so the history of the church with these time-lines align with the Song of Songs. ´This romantic work given by God Himself, reminds us of how He has lead his people in the past, and reassures them that there is nothing to fear for the future, and He will shine a light in the darkness, He will always give hope, He will give understand of the current time, show where His people currently are, continue to emphasise the doctrine of salvation, and send His son as the conqueror and deliverer.

´During the period of 1844 the gospel went to all the world and people were prepared for the bridegroom to come but it was the ‘midnight cry’ that announced the coming of the Son to the Father to receive His promise. But it also highlights the message ‘Babylon is fallen, is fallen’.

Prince of Peace

´Solomon, the author and a prince of peace because he had a peaceful reign prefigured the actual Prince Of Peace, Jesus, the main character in the story.  The bride or heroine of the drama is the church form beginning to end. The mother is the universal church in the old and new testaments but stretches through all ages even now.  The daughters of Jerusalem or wedding party represent all the individual members of the church. ´AD 31 represents the reality of the song From Heaven. Jesus came and sought ‘her’ to be His holy bride, with His blood He brought her, and for her life He died.  The drama begins here where a dowry was paid for His bride and He soon after promised to go and prepare a place for her.

´SONG 1:2 Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth: for thy love is better than wine.  A kiss in this context represents reconciliation or atonement (at-one-ment) which happened at the cross. EPH 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it… She declares, his kisses are sweeter than wine.  As wine permeates and motivates, so Christ dwelling in the body permeates and motivates it.

Kisses

´SONG 1:3 Because of the savor of thy good ointments thy name is as ointment poured forth, therefore do the virgins love thee.  Because they understand that by faith – the fragrance of the good and healing balm – they are saved/justified — the individuals in the church love ‘thee’ and ‘thy name’. ACTS 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. ´SONG 1:4 Draw me, we will run after thee: the king hath brought me into his chambers: we will be glad and rejoice in thee, we will remember thy love more than wine: the upright love thee.  Draw me – JN 12:32 And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me. As people consecrate themselves and take the name of Christ as in marriage, and they walk in unison, the bride will become more and more like her husband. To run after Him is as HEB 12:1…let us run with patience the race that is set before us; the race of sanctification so that justification can be accomplished.  “the upright love thee” implies that sanctification is accepted and revealed in the life of the bride/individual.

´The first four verses poetically embodies the fundamental principles of the gospel, at-one-ment, sanctification and justification all through the expression of faith with Christ imparting His character and righteousness to the bride.  These verses represent the first two hundred years of Christianity where Revelation describes it as a victorious, conquering church on a white horse, being complemented with a perfumed ointment

Fundamentals

´But the narrative’s historical beginning in Jerusalem in AD 34 was stormy with the persecution of Christians SONG 1:6 … my mother’s children were angry with me, they made me the keeper of the vineyards; but mine own vineyard have I not kept .… also portrayed in Daniel 9:24  ‘seventy weeks are determined on they people…’ signifying that God did not reject the Jews but they Him.  “Keeper of the vineyard” meaning that the Christians were now responsible for taking the gospel to the world.  My mother’s children refers to Jerusalem is the mother of all the saved, the universal church of all ages who will possess the New Jerusalem.

´SONG 1:5 I am black…as the tents of Kedar, as the curtains of Solomon. Shows the extent to which sun worship/paganism and immorality with all its corruptions penetrated even the Christian circles/worship.  The messages to the seven churches in Revelation help to identify some of those guilty of accepting such teachings – AD 31-538.  “I am black and comely”- and comely shows how no matter what God still has some remnant that He holds in high regard as depicted in Acts of the Apostles…p 12‘.

Paganism

´After the white horse in Revelation 6, then comes the black horse from AD 24-325´. My own vineyard I have not kept points to the church of Pergamus that was to be a watchtower but fell into apostasy and started the descent into the Dark Ages – 1260 years in Daniel. ´During 538-1798 the mountains of Europe became the wilderness of the church. SONG 1:7 Tell me, O thou whom my soul loveth, where thou feedest, where thou makest thy flock to rest at noonNoon for the Papacy was midnight for the world GC p6. JER 6:2 I have likened the daughter of Zion to a comely and delicate woman.JER 6:3 The shepherds with their flocks shall come unto her; they shall pitch their tents against her round about; they shall feed every one in his place. ‘Feed my lambs” with the word.

´SONG 1:6…I am black, because the sun hath looked upon me: In verses 5,6 the bride is speaking, and it refers to the fourth century – in Rome – when sun worship was prevalent and Christians in many ways lost sight of the Son of Righteousness and adapted some pagan systems that blackened/corrupted her garments even with apostasy. 2 THESS 2:7 For the mystery of iniquity doth already work.’

Persecution

´The bridegroom now speaks SONG 1:9 I have compared thee, O my love, to a company of horses in Pharaoh’s chariots (persecution).  SONG 1:10 Thy cheeks are comely with rows of jewels, thy neck with chains of gold.  SONG 1:11 We will make thee borders of gold with studs of silver (the Trinity adorn her with the golden chain of Faith with links representing the Law). SONG 1:12-17; 2:1-7.  (The bride answers, then the bridegroom, and the bride again speaking. During the 1260 years the church is nourished and kept by the Lord). ´SONG 2:7 I charge you, O ye daughters of Jerusalem, by the roes, and by the hinds of the field, that ye stir not up, nor awake my love, till he please. (I charge you is God’s official communication to His church through prophecy that they will be in the wilderness of 1260 years. Roes and hinds in the field is the scriptures –  they expect the groom but he is not coming yet)SONG 2:8 The voice of my beloved! behold, he cometh leaping upon the mountains, skipping upon the hills. (The voice of my beloved is again the word of God that was hidden away for centuries through language barriers etc. and is now becoming available to the common people).  GC 79.

´SONG 2:9 My beloved is like a roe or a young hart. Roe or hart is exemplifying the lamb of God…behold, he standeth behind our wall, he looketh forth at the windows, shewing himself through the lattice. (Looking through the window and shew Himself through the lattice expresses the difficulties and trouble that will arise, but nothing can stop the reformation showed by Providence – people must begin to prepare for the bridegroom).

Little Foxes

´SONG 2:10 My beloved spake, and said unto me, Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away. SONG 2:11 For, lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone…  The reformation was a call to rise up and study the scriptures and from thence it would have upward movements from one truth to another lead by the dove or Holy Spirit.

´ SONG 2:15 Take us the foxes, the little foxes, that spoil the vines: for our vines have tender grapesAs the reformation continued, the priests did not hesitate to make the work of the reformers bitter with their accusations, threats, false teachings, etc.

´SONG 2:17 Until the day break, and the shadows flee away, turn, my beloved, and be thou like a roe or a young hart upon the mountains of BetherTurn my beloved, be like a roe on the mountain of Bether or be in seclusion or separation for a little longer.  However centuries must still pass before the bridegroom appears.

´SONG 3:1 By night on my bed I sought him whom my soul loveth: I sought him, but I found him not. Although the church was now in America fleeing from Europe’s persecution, they were not totally free from the influence from the Roman teaching and worldliness.  This ‘Sardis’ church was as it said ‘thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead.’ The Lord wanted to arouse the church to prepare for His coming while she was in her bed of spiritual stupor and lethargy.

Watchmen

´The church was awakened suddenly with the incarceration of the Pope and began to search the scriptures but could not find when the redeemer would return – this is the 1800 awakening. It prepared the way for the great advent movement, 1844. ´SONG 3:2  I will rise now, and go about the city in the streets, and in the broad ways.  Now with all the different denominations equal to Babylon, the city with many streets; the lord says narrow is the way that leads to life.  “I sought him and found him not,’ is because, at the time, the ‘present truth’ could not be comprehended.  The bride must search for the prophetic truth and details of the coming of the bridegroom. ´SONG 3:3 The watchmen that go about the city found me: to whom I said, Saw ye him whom my soul loveth?  The watchmen are the pastors & theologians that were not enlightened; those bypassed as humble men were now given the understanding of the scriptures, and previous signs as the great earthquake testified to their words.

´ SONG 3:4 It was but a little that I passed from them, (arrest of the Pope) but I found him whom my soul loveth: I held him, and would not let him go, until I had brought him into my mother’s house, and into the chamber of her that conceived me.  I found him…and would not let him go…they found and preached the Present Truth, the sanctuary message, the announcement of the judgement hour and the prospect of the soon coming king.

Roes & Hinds

´SONG 3:5 I charge you, O ye daughters of Jerusalem, by the roes, and by the hinds of the field, that ye stir not up, nor awake my love, till he please. I charge you or command you by the roes & hinds or scriptures that you comprehend what is written, the word did not confirm that the beloved will be appearing at this time – 1844. ´SONG 3:6 Who is this that cometh out of the wilderness like pillars of smoke, perfumed with myrrh and frankincense, with all powders of the merchant? JOEL 2:30 And I will shew wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke.. JOEL 2:31 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and terrible day of the LORD come.  JOEL 2:32 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the LORD hath said, and in the remnant whom the LORD shall call. ´God is a consuming fire so pillars of smoke refers to the presence, glory and even action of God.  It also can be seen as the outpouring of the Holy Spirit.  The remnant bride is she that is coming out of the wilderness.

´SONG 3:7 Behold his bed, which is Solomon’s; threescore valiant men are about it, of the valiant of Israel. Solomon is a type of Christ and his bed could be a chariot or a potable chair carried on the shoulders – as the Great advent movement.  During this time, strong valiant men carried forward the gospel and the expectancy of a soon coming Savior – the word being their sword, even of students. SONG 3:8 They all hold swords, being expert in war: every man hath his sword upon his thigh because of fear in the night.

The Crown

´SONG 3:9 King Solomon made himself a chariot of the wood of Lebanon.  SONG 3:10 He made the pillars thereof of silver, the bottom thereof of gold, the covering of it of purple, the midst thereof being paved with love, for the daughters of Jerusalem (mother of us all-saved of all ages-the kingdom received in the investigative judgment). ´SONG 3:11 Go forth, O ye daughters of Zion, and behold king Solomon with the crown (kingdom) wherewith his mother crowned him in the day of his espousals, (marriage/Investigative judgement) and in the day of the gladness of his heart.  Here, Jesus is carried to the Most Holy to become High Priest, for the cleansing of the sanctuary, and to receive His bride, so the daughters of Jerusalem are invited – that is the universal church, the mother being. GC  p. 426  The advent movement gave the world the first angel’s message. Chapter four begins the second angel’s message.

SONG 4:1 Behold, thou art fair, my love; behold, thou art fair; thou hast doves’ eyes (Holy Spirit) within thy locks: (glory and beauty caused by the Holy Spirit)thy hair is as a flock of goats, that appear from mount Gilead. Rock/Christ) SONG 4:2 Thy teeth are like a flock of sheep that are even shorn, (even) which came up from the washing; (clean, white, strong to eat the ‘little book’) whereof every one bear twins, and none is barren among them. (effort in studying the word is not lost).

Growth

´SONG 4:3 Thy lips are like a thread of scarlet, (continuity of thought in sermon) and thy speech is comely: thy temples are like a piece of a pomegranate (symbol of knowledge and wisdom) within thy locks. ´SONG 4:4 Thy neck is like the tower of David builded for an armoury, whereon there hang a thousand bucklers, (strength) all shields of mighty men – (truth and faithSONG 4:5 Thy two breasts are like two young roes that are twins, (old and new testaments) which feed among the lilies. (nourish the church) SONG 4:6 Until the day break, (till truth is fully revealed) and the shadows flee away, I will get me to the mountain of myrrh, and to the hill of frankincense. (the Most Holy Place where judgment is) SONG 4:7 Thou art all fair, my love; there is no spot in thee. (the sinless bride is ready for the bridegroom).

´SONG 4:8 Come with me from Lebanon, my spouse, with me from Lebanon: look from the top of Amana, from the top of Shenir and Hermon, from the lions’ dens, from the mountains of the leopards. (come to the mouintain top and see the fields in which you must labour for the gospel worldwide).

The Voice

´SONG 5:2,4…the voice of my beloved that knocketh … My beloved put in his hand by the hole of the door, and my bowels were moved for him. SONG 5:5 I rose up to open to my beloved; and my hands dropped with myrrh, and my fingers with sweet smelling myrrh, upon the handles of the lock. SONG 5:6 I opened to my beloved; but my beloved had withdrawn himself, and was gone: my soul failed when he spake: I sought him, but I could not find him; I called him, but he gave me no answer. (the 1844 message was sweet/bitter- his sweet voice moved my bowels but myrrh is also bitter– the advent reformers were being set apart for their ministry). SONG 5:7 The watchmen that went about the city found me, they smote me, they wounded me; the keepers of the walls took away my veil from me.  (the mockers and scoffers ridiculed but those whose faith held fast persisted). SONG 5:8 I charge you, O daughters of Jerusalem, if ye find my beloved, that ye tell him, that I am sick of love.

SONG 5:9 What is thy beloved more than another beloved, O thou fairest among women? what is thy beloved more than another beloved, that thou dost so charge us?
(Speaking of the Pope) SONG 5:10 My beloved is white and ruddy, the chiefest among ten thousand. SONG 5:11 His head is as the most fine gold, his locks are bushy, and black as a raven. SONG 5:12 His eyes are as the eyes of doves by the rivers of waters, washed with milk, and fitly set – (the advent people now understand the high, exalted, priestly, judicial, kingly position of the bridegroom)(the Holy Spirit will lead to the pure, true milk of the word, he is the representative of Christ on earth “Vicar of Christ” but the Pope has usurped this title).

Patience

´SONG 5:13 His cheeks are as a bed of spices, as sweet flowers: his lips like lilies, dropping sweet smelling myrrh – (smiting of the cheek as in the crucifixion scene). SONG 5:14. His hands are as gold rings (the creator, law giver, pierced savior) set with the beryl: his belly is as bright ivory overlaid with sapphires. SONG 5:15. His legs are as pillars of marble, (shows strength as the two pillars in Solomon’s temple – Boaz & Jachin which housed the genealogy of Israel) set upon sockets of fine gold: his countenance is as Lebanon, excellent as the cedars.  (The Papal supremacy built on the fabricated  two “Decretals” – the first with the ‘Donation of Constantine’ with the two magical pillars of the spiritual and temporal monarchy of the pope – the Decretal Epistles are said to be equal to the Bible). SONG 5:16. His mouth is most sweet: (Christ, the law giver) yea, he is altogether lovely. This is my beloved, and this is my friend, O daughters of Jerusalem.

´Chapters 6 & 7 parallel Rev 14:12 – Here is the patience of the saints…SONG 6:1 Whither is thy beloved gone, O thou fairest among women? whither is thy beloved turned aside? that we may seek him with thee – (the remnant is instructed to proclaim the 3 angels message worldwide)
SONG 6:2 My beloved is gone down into his garden, to the beds of spices, to feed in the gardens, and to gather lilies. (give the sweet everlasting gospel to all peoples)
.

Identity

´SONG 6:3 I am my beloved’s, and my beloved is mine: he feedeth among the lilies. SONG 6:4 Thou art beautiful, O my love, as Tirzah, comely as Jerusalem, terrible as an army with banners.
SONG 6:5 Turn away thine eyes from me, for they have overcome me: (your spiritual insight has won my approval)  thy hair (glory) is as a flock of goats that appear from Gilead.  (rock – Christ ) (the symbolism used earlier in the book can be applied to chapter 6 as pomegranates = knowledge and wisdom and temples = intelligence) SONG 6:13 Return, return, O Shulamite; return, return… (the  bride church is called Shulamite is in the story – she is so advanced in her knowledge of the prophecies/Bible that the other churches are asking her to slow down so they can also be nourished by the Elijah message for today- but they are also confronted with the true and false messages – two armies)
.

´SONG 7:1. How beautiful are thy feet with shoes, (with the gospel of peace) O prince’s daughter! (the royal family of God) the joints of thy thighs are like jewels, (graceful, beautiful movements) the work of the hands of a cunning workman. (Christ) SONG 7:2. Thy navel (birth mark/scars) is like a round goblet, which wanteth not liquor: thy belly (central structure) is like an heap of wheat (bread of life) set about with lilies. SONG 7:9. And the roof of thy mouth like the best wine for my beloved, that goeth down sweetly, causing the lips of those that are asleep to speak. (for the final message of Rev 14 to be given, the advent people must know their identity in contrast to other religions).
